INFOSCAPE

Experiencing a Panoramic View of Information

INFOSCAPE is a project that explores how cutting-edge technologies of the mid-1990s, such as computers and the internet, have influenced the lifestyles within a new information society. The project is inspired by a book titled Infoscape, which examines the relationship between information and landscape. The early members of h.o. were mentored by Professor Makoto Arisawa of Keio University’s SFC, one of the authors of the book, and h.o. aimed to present a panoramic view of this intellectual world (the Infoscape) in urban and beach settings.

In INFOSCAPE CITY, data collected from various centers installed throughout the city was used to create an audio-visual representation of the city’s panorama. This data was transformed into an immersive installation in the underground plaza of Yokohama’s Kannai subway station, combining real-time data on pedestrian traffic and live camera feeds from five distinct locations around the station.

INFOSCAPE BEACH made use of a beach house at Tsujido Coast, where sensor-driven lighting devices, which responded to the sounds of the waves and wind, along with sand projections forming the prototype of Perfect Time, were installed to experiment with the reconfiguration of spaces where people gather.
