Polaris

The Cosmos That Permeates Our Surroundings

Polaris is the shining star in the northern sky. In this world, there exists an invisible axis around which everything revolves. Though the rotation seems slow, it is precise and smooth. Polaris symbolizes the hidden world within our daily lives. A silver sphere hangs in the air. Visitors can discover the silhouette of the sphere cast upon a table by strong lighting. Upon closer inspection of the silhouette, one can observe a small star slowly rotating within it. When casting a shadow onto the table, the hidden world within that shadow is revealed. Polaris serves as a symbolic trigger to shift our perspective, helping us sense the unknown world around us.

In the early stages of h.o’s career, the artist actively presented new works at the Wacoal Art Center, known as “Spiral,” a hub for contemporary art in Tokyo. Resonating with Spiral’s philosophy of “art in everyday life,” h.o engaged in the practice of bringing media art into the fabric of daily existence.
